Burlington with Mom

Turning Point Images Burlington MA-27Two weeks back my mom came to visit.  As I was thinking of the possibilities I thought of Burlington, VT.  I had always heard what a great place it was.  I offered it up with a few other spots and mom agreed Burlington would be great! So off we went.Turning Point Images Burlington MA-46

We arrived on Wednesday night.  After a quick dinner at the hotel we went to the docks.  While there we grabbed some ice cream and admired the sun set on Lake Champlain.  A beautiful lake full of stories.

The next day we headed downtown to Church Street.  An old world style street with cable stone where foot traffic is the only mode of transportation allowed.  We had lunch at El Gato as a suggestion from my friend Joline.  Never would have thought I would find such good Mexican food on the streets of Burlington.Turning Point Images Burlington MA-76

On Friday we went on not one but two different cruises around the lake!  Lake Champlain has a great history and we heard all about it while going around the lake.  During the early part of American Revolution it played a pivotal part in creating a strong hold.  This strong hold helped them to be able to create and manufacture ships to use in the impending war.

The next day we said goodbye to Burlington but one the way out of town we stopped to have our cordial visit to Ben and Jerry’s ice cream factory.

As we left Vermont we did have one last stop.  We visited my mother’s childhood friend Martha in Chester. While there we stopped by the famous Hugging Bear Inn and Shoppe.  Filled with wonderment from the first step through the door you are transported back to being a child as you look around at shelves and shelves of Teddy Bears.

My few days with my mom were some of the best in history.  This is not the end of the story though we still have at least one more day coming up soon.
